We are often asked about how important the weight We are often asked about how important the weight of a vinyl record is. Ultimately, a 180g record does not add any sound quality compared to a 140g, we cut the masters on the same lacquers on our end. However, a heavier record is less likely to be affected by warping. As an extreme example, here are some photos of a record weighing under 82g!! In the late 60s-early 70s, RCA produced what were known as Dynaflex records. These were known to weigh roughly 90g, and this is the lightest one we've seen! This process helps to clean residual lacquer nitrocellulose from the newly formed metal master.
